Hyatt, appearing at the Meetings Show at London’s Olympia, offered attendees the chance to wirelessly charge their electronic devices at its stand, partnering up with CHARGit to provide its pioneering wireless technology.

The Meetings Show is the premier UK event for the meetings industry and features exhibitors such as hotels, venues and technology providers. Hyatt, as a leading hotel brand, was looking to showcase its capabilities at hosting business events. By utilising CHARGit’s wireless offering it was able to demonstrate its willingness to embrace the latest technological developments, while also helping to improve both footfall and dwell time at its stand.

CHARGit installed three of its CHARGhub units at the event, which were fitted into a high table that blended in with the Hyatt stand design. The CHARGhubs allowed visitors to the stand to take a break and wirelessly charge electronic devices low on battery, while affording the Hyatt staff time to engage with them.

CHARGit, which was launched in March this year, allows for multiple devices, such as smartphones, tablets and laptops to charge simultaneously through a surface, without the need for plug cables, offering ease of use for consumers, and a new service offering for businesses.

Hayley Freedman, Director of CHARGit said: “CHARGit offers venues the opportunity to embellish their credentials as the perfect hosts for business meetings. For hotels, implementing CHARGit lets them demonstrate that they have the latest technological developments in place, helping to facilitate meetings and make them more appealing as a venue – something Hyatt has recognised.”

Hayley continued: “CHARGit removes pre-meeting hassle, with no need to remember any plugs for electronic devices while removing the need to rummage around for power cords. Simply putting compatible laptops, smartphones and tablets down onto a CHARGhub will see devices charge, allowing meetings to begin without interruption. It saves time, while also helping to remove trip hazards and unsightly cables.”

CHARGit’s technology works by fitting a unit under a table or counter surface to create a charging zone, known as a CHARGzone. This zone can then charge multiple devices at once, simply by placing them within it. Compatible devices need only be placed within the CHARGzone to charge, while non-compatible devices can have a CHARGkey added, providing them with the same function. No precise alignment is needed for charging to begin.

The fitted unit, known as a CHARGhub, is a ‘through surface transmitter’ that can be installed to the bottom of any non-metallic surface (a wooden table or counter for example). There is no need for core-drilling, which can potentially damage aesthetics/décor, with the unit only needing to be screwed in place.

For devices that don’t have wireless charging capability already installed, a CHARGkey is necessary, which acts in a similar fashion to a key fob. Having a CHARGkey plugged into a smartphone, tablet or laptop’s USB/charging port allows it to charge wirelessly.

Hayley said: “We’ve seen our CHARGhubs work to great effect at events, encouraging footfall and dwell time as stand visitors are encouraged to stop for a period to charge. It worked brilliantly for PayPal at RBTE earlier on this year, so we’re delighted to see it help Hyatt experience a similar boost in stand visitor numbers. We’ll be hoping to help many more brands at exhibitions in the future.”
